Companies participating in Skills Development initiatives are required to submit their Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Reports (ATR) by 28 April 2017.

Points can also be earned under the new BBBEE Codes for the Skills Development priority element pending successful submission of Workplace Skills Plan  Annual Training Reports 2017

The value of developing meaningful WSPs & ATRs is multi-faceted. Apart from achieving compliance and earning financial rebates, these plans and reports can also add strategic value to a business. Many Employer’s are paying SDL every month to SARS and never claim the rebates.

IMPORTANT NOTICE EXTENSION OF MANDATORY AND DISCRETIONARY GRANT APPLICATIONS DEADLINE

 

The merSETA hereby informs all stakeholders that the deadline for the submission of mandatory and discretionary grant applications has been extended to Tuesday, 31st May 2016.

The submission deadlines for the financial period 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017 are now as follows: Mandatory grant submissions for merSETA levy-paying companies is Tuesday, 31st May 2016;

Large and medium-sized companies that intend to be considered for discretionary grants for PIVOTAL programmes must submit their mandatory grant application and complete the PIVOTAL plan on or before the deadline of Tuesday, 31st May 2016.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT LEVY (SDL)

What is SDL?

Skills Development Levy is a levy imposed to encourage learning and development in South Africa and is determined by an employer’s salary bill.

The funds are to be used to develop and improve skills of employees.

Who must pay SDL?

SDL is due by employers who have been registered.

Top Tip: Where an employer expects that the total salaries will be more than R500 000 over the next 12 months, that employer becomes liable to pay SDL.
